I hope everyone who celebrates had a great Easter. We took a day trip to Connecticut to visit my husband’s great aunt. She is amazing – 95 years old and she doesn’t miss a beat. She is one classy lady – always dressed perfectly, and true to the season. Her jewelry selection is so unique and fun and I love to see what she’ll be wearing each time we see her. Her hair is always done so beautifully with a fun hair accessory too. And yet she’s fun and down to earth. She lives in a delightful apartment that was one of the coziest and most inviting homes I’ve been in. It’s small but it tells a huge story. Literally. In addition to the many photographs, I noticed she had several sayings that appeared throughout her home that really summed up her life and her spirit. They were my favorite things about her welcoming home. Here were a few of the inspiring items:
I love when words are communicated visually. As a graphic designer, I try to create artwork and logos that do just that. As an artist, I love to incorporate meaningful sayings into a piece of art. I thought this was a new trend but I was wrong. Some of the items shown above were old and I’m guessing some were given as gifts. But they all communicated a feeling and helped to make her home so personal. I guess what I learned is to make your home a reflection of yourself. Include what you love and what has meaning to you and that will translate to your spirit – and to your visitors. Things don’t have to cost a lot or be the current trend. But they should have meaning.
I hope to have the grace that my kids’ great-great aunt has when I’m 95. And I hope when people visit me now – and then – that they feel as welcomed and we did. Enjoy!
