It’s that time of year – color the eggs. I don’t usually get excited about this part of Easter. The set up, the clean up, the dyed fingers, the kids fighting about who’s eggs look better. But it has to be done. I was really happy to find an alternative to the dye tablets and cups – actually painting the eggs! Now, we did have to do the dye cups too but hand painting them added a fun, less stressful element to the process. Maybe because it was new and different – or maybe it was because my older boys didn’t partake! So it was just me and my daughter and some good quality time together creating.
We did the egg painting outside – and that was different too. We set up a tarp on the driveway and brought out all the goods so there was no worrying about spilling or messy-ness. Plus we finally had a nice spring day here so we had to enjoy it.
Fo the most part we dipped the eggs in the dye and then added our painting embellishments. And we did 3 different techniques {we sound official, huh}:
1 – pencil eraser stamping – {tutorial here} Basically you cut the erasers to make different shapes and they’re the perfect size for egg decorating.
2 – straightforward painting – stripes, waves, dripping watercolors… whatever you want. Have fun with it. Don’t forget the washi tape as egg stands for drying.
3 – fingerprinting/painting – I love how these eggs look and we had fun doing them!
If you’re looking for something different and to switch things up this year, stamping and decorating the eggs with paint was fun! And take it outdoors if the weather allows!
How do you usually decorate your eggs?
I'd love to hear your comments!
