Just six weeks ago I began transforming our half bathroom/laundry area and documented my progress. I have had so much fun in this One Room Challenge™. Today’s the day – the final reveal is here. I love how this space looks and feels. And it was a super low-budget project.
I’m a firm believer that making a house a home doesn’t happen over night. It can take weeks, even years. And it should evolve as we grow. But I also see so many people unhappy in their homes. They want to change things but they don’t know how, don’t have time, or just put things off for another time. It takes a lot of hard work, patience and decision making to create an environment that’s truly our own, but it’s so worth it. Creating a home that makes us happy in our environment and is meaningful in purpose is what I hope to inspire others to do.
Here are the finishing touches I added this week:
I found a rug at Home Goods that was the right size and blended in well with the floor and gray wallpaper. It warms up the space a bit too.
I added a backsplash. I really don’t love the idea – or look – of a backsplash. I understand their purpose, but I don’t think they’re needed all the time. Since this sunk has the wallpaper behind it, it was definitely needed. When we bought this vanity, the top was included and I love the marbled colors but I never knew the name of the pattern so it was hard to find a match. So I decided to find a piece of granite that blended with the wall color.
I think it works great and as much as I hate backsplashes, this one will definitely serve it’s purpose and protect the walls.
I added a few frames to the wood ladder. A little color was nice and these 2 little frames at Michaels were the perfect solution. I love the teal one and I spray painted the other one copper. That one can of spray paint has really been useful!
I spray painted a few hooks, added some artwork, and hung these cute frames with remnant pieces of leather cord from the wash your hands sign.
I found a pretty candle and room spray at Home Sense.
And I hung a copper hook for our dog’s towel. He needs a daily towel for all the messes he gets into.
This laundry space looks so much prettier and is more purposeful.
I also found this cute little wood table that reminded more of a stool. I think it looks great in the corner where I can put my laundry. It was little banged up, so after I got the price down a bit, I took it home and roughed it up even more.
I added some notches with a hammer and then sanded the edges for a worn look.
Here my final to-do list with all the sources – if I could find them online – and pricing. Anything that says $0 is because I already had it and either repurposed it or it was leftover from a previous project. Can you believe this room cost me $404?
