Minted invitation design contest | I need your votes

I just submitted two different designs to a competition that Minted is running and I would love your votes! These are the two designs I created for their “Oh, Happy Day! Kids Birthday Party Invitation Challenge”.

First I have to clarify that I did these Sunday and the deadline was Monday. But in my defense, I really didn’t procrastinate. I only saw the contest this weekend. But I can’t say I wouldn’t have waited until the last minute even if I did know about it earlier. I love designing invitations and I have done a ton of them. But I’ve never entered one {or two} into any sort of competition. And I’m nervous! Why? I’m not sure. I guess I want to win {of course}. But more than that, it’s also the fact that I’m very vulnerable. In a situation like this, I’m putting myself and my work out there to be judged.

There were strict guidelines for sizes, formats, etc. that can be a little harrowing for a designer – at least this designer! I had to work in a program that I didn’t know very well and there was some technical jargon that was new for me too. But I usually like a challenge. It’s very rewarding when I learn something new, especially when it’s self taught. So I did it. Even if I don’t win {sigh}, I realized that I’d like to keep entering contests like this. They are personal challenges that I can keep learning from. The great thing about the Minted contests are that the community not only votes on your designs but they can also critique them {yikes!}. So bring it on. And as I’m writing this, I just got an email from someone saying they liked one of my designs! Yeah! It’s a start. I feel like Sally Field, “You like me. You really, really like me.”
