Just like me, our house has been feeling very blah lately. I think I’ve needed spring to be here and it shows! Decorating for spring was a good way to add some color and bring in the sunshine. And after the long {and still lingering} winter, it was a welcome change.
Our beverage cabinet is my favorite area for decorating. It’s an old piece that I recently refurbished {wish I took before pictures!} and it’s in just the right spot to be seen from a lot of areas in our home. I stenciled the bunny print and bag {see post here} and painted the happy easter sign with watercolors – very easy! The mini bird figures add a delicate touch and I embellished the glass-block vase with a peel-off decal I found at A.C. Moore. And a small batch of flowers to make it all pretty. I love the contrast of the wood and natural pieces with the spring colors too.
I went with a bunch of small elements versus a large centerpiece for our dining room table. I had all the pieces already but they all lived elsewhere. Even though they don’t match, this arrangement works because they share different elements that connect them {color, shape, texture, size}. And add in sticks wherever you can. So easy, and always available! I love using old or aged books in displays too – Shel Silvestein’s Where the Sidewalk Ends is one of my favorites!
And across the room, is the disco ball. I guess that’s not so spring but it does brighten things up. The bird figure and egg-filled terrarium add the spring feel.
The armoire in our foyer got some spring touches by way of flowers, floral prints, eggs in a {cheap} glass jar and another quick watercolor painting of an easter egg. The ceramic bunny is from Pier 1. So sweet.
The deer antlers got a new flower bouquet too. The April showers print is available to purchase in the art prints section of my shop.
I had to lighten up our mantle – which I love – but it’s just very heavy looking with the tv and sound bar {do we really need a sound bar, asks the wife?}. So I made a spring banner. Nothing fancy. I glued each piece onto burlap and hung with twine. I changed the ribbon color on the topiaries and added an egg and nest to the urn and a mini bird cage also from Pier 1. The alphabet was a project I did in college {pre-computers} so each letter was hand drawn with flowers. So painful. It means a lot to me and it works well for a spring touch.
I just added some silk spring flowers to the arrangement on our front door and personalized it with our initial.
We’re not having easter at our house this year but this is what our table would look like. Lots of spring colors that remind me of colored eggs. The centerpiece is one of my favorites. I bought it years ago at a home party and I just keep embellishing it each year, adding feathers, eggs, candy and changing the ribbon. A simple place card and some jelly beans add a light touch. The charger is from Michael’s and the napkin rings are from Bed, Bath & Beyond.
The house definitely has a more feminine feel but nothing too crazy. It is brighter and ready for spring! Enjoy your weekend.
