simple faux eucalyptus wreath

Holiday decorating can be overwelming. And since Christmas is less than 2 weeks away, I’m done with adding any additional holiday themed decorations. But I do love wreaths. All kinds. And eucalyptus is having a moment right now. And unlike evergreens, it can extend through the seasons.

We have little silver stag hung in our family room and I usually like to embellish him it, with seasonal decor. I’ve added paper rolled flowers, pom poms, and fall colored arrangements. I’ve gotten quite attached to this little guy so I thought he it needed a holiday touch. But, like I said, I was done. So I decided to make a very simple wreath with some leftover faux eucalyptus I had from a previous project. I knew that I wanted this wreath to be a little crude and supe simple so it didn’t overpower this sweet stag. So I decided to use a wire hanger as my form. Plus, I’m kinda like Mommie Dearest and not a fan of the wire hangers. So I had all my materials, no errands needed. boom.

Materials needed:

• Faux eucalyptus branches, you can find them at most craft stores
• Wire hanger, with or without the cardboard base
• Plyers
• Glue gun
• Ribbon and/or any additional decoration

First, you’ll need to take the hanger apart. I found the hangers with the cardboard base are the sturdiest. Remove the cardboard and discard.

Next, using your plyers – I used both needlenosed and regular – bend the hanger into a circular shape.

Be careful not to snap the wire. Remember, this wreath is very rustic so the circle shape doesn’t have to be perfect.

With your players, pinch the ends into small loops and hook them together so they’re secure.

Now you have your slightly imprefect wire form.

Next, trim your eucalyptus so that they are single branches.

Now you can start attaching them to the wire form. I designed this wreath so that the brances extend off of the bottom left side in either direction. This is also the area where I’ll be attaching my ribbon. The faux eucalyptus are easy to bend because they have wire stems. Wrap the branches to your wire form and glue in place in any areas if needed. I only needed to glue a few spots – the branches stayed in place pretty well.

Once I got half way around the form. I went back to the starting point and added brances in the other direction.

Once you have the branches all in place, you can add a ribbon or any other embellishments. I like the jingle bells too.

Now hang as you’d like. And even though I made mine to hang on my silver stag, these wreaths can be hung on any hook, door knob or even on the back of a chair.

This wreath is a little unconventional. It’s not perfectly round, or overflowing with greenery. And there’s no large, dominating bow. And yet, I love it. Simple, rustic and refined. He wears it well.
