As many of you know, I’m a graphic designer by trade. I went to school for it, worked in an ad agency in Boston for over 10 years and I’ve been on my own freelancing for the past, gulp, 16 years. A few years ago I started this little blog as a way to channel my love for all things creative, not just print design. I love it and it’s opened up a whole new world for me beyond my corporate design work. I’ve been able to do lots of different types of creative work which means lots of research. I hang around Pinterest a lot. I love checking out new stores, and reading magazines that feature new artists and trends. Sometimes my searches lead me in several different directions. And a lot of times I get way off track from what my original intention was. But there’s so much great stuff out there that I feel going off track sometimes leads to some really cool finds. So I thought I’d share some of these finds with you. If I can keep up, I’ll do this on a regular basis. If you’ve seen some of these ideas already they’re worth another look (sometimes I’m a little behind the trends!)
So here’s some of my super cool finds. Click on the links below the pictures to go to the original sources.
I just picked up my copy of In the Company of Women and I can’t wait to read it. It’s a new book from Grace Bonney of Design*Sponge. It’s a collection of advice and inspiration from 100 female artists, makers and entrepreneurs. There’s interviews and portraits of these exceptional leaders across a wide range of races, ages, backgrounds, and industries. It’s said to be chock-full of smart, practical advice and offers insights into what success really means, overcoming obstacles, staying true to yourself, and so much more. Can you say empowering?
These unexpected colors of fall from Craftberry Bush. Copper and Indigo. yum.
These rose gold druzy earings. I like simple jewelry but it can get boring. These are so pretty and unique – and I’m in love with the rose gold trend.
Oh Joy! Turns 11. You’ve probably seen their products in Target. They started out as a graphic design studio, and they now have various product lines, how-to lifestyle videos, and a daily blog about design, fashion, food, and everyday life. It seems like such a fun place to work and they do some really cool stuff.
This article: Glorifying Being Busy. And How to Stop It. We’re all over scheduled and it’s not cool. A good reminder – and some tips on how to make space in our lives.
Headspace. This app is a great way to help combat our busy lives (see above) and the anxiety that often comes along with it. I’m not good at the meditation thing but this is a great start. 10 minutes a day. So far, so good.
This poncho. My searches almost always veer off towards fashion. I love to ooh and ahhh at clothes and I just love this poncho. Perfect for football games, a city stroll, apple picking, or anywhere really.
These may not be fashionable, but the Women’s Marls Ankle Workout Socks from Bombas are awesome. And this article on why you should care about the socks you’re working out in. Plus Bombas donates a pair of socks to a homeless shelter for every pair ordered. Awesome.
The best sangria ever recipe. I added my recipe because, well, it’s Friday. It truly is the best. And trust me, I’ve tried them all.
Happy Friday and have a wonderful weekend!
