This may be the coolest post I do, because, well, I didn’t do it. I’m almost 50 years old. ugh. I l-o-v-e fashion. But as much as I try, I’m always a few steps behind the trends. Or maybe more than a few steps. So when my niece – who is a design major at Salve Regina – told me that neon was the color trend right now, I was shocked. But then, sure enough within a few weeks, I saw it everywhere. See, always a few steps behind. So I asked her to write a post about it. I was immediately brought back to my big-hair, madonna-loving days of the 80’s. But this new trend is far from that. It’s fun, bold, edgy and, although little kitchy, it’s now done in a more subtle and stylish way. Enjoy this super cool post! And I hope you’ll try to incorporate the neon trend too.

Neon has shed its tacky history and has taken on a modern and sophisticated approach, perfect for summer and for making summer last even longer!
Neon clothing became popular in the 80’s. It was in the movies, on MTV, Madonna wore neon ripped shirts and jewelry. It was a thing. It was new, youthful, and it was certainly bright and cheerful. As was the entire decade of the 1980s. But it may have been a little too overdone. But now – just like everything else – neon is making a comeback.
Flashy colors dominated the Spring Summer 2019 (SS19) catwalks, with designers like Naeem Khan, Alice + Olivia, and Virgil Abloh of Off-White sending their creative twists on trending colors and patterns. Neon Pink and Fluorescent Green were the most prevalent among the full palette of colors being represented.
These bright hues may be a bit intimidating to take on, so here are some tips on how to style this new trend and not overdo it.
Tip #1: Ease into the Neon Trend with Accessories for Contrast
Tip #2: Try a neutral outfit with neon details
Tip #3: Have fun!
Don’t be afraid to take risks and have fun with your look! Pair a solid neon with a snakeskin pant or a pair of kitsch shoes.
Pretty cool, huh.
