I’m here to share with you what you might think is a crazy idea – my monogrammed wall.
I’m a graphic designer so I love typography and fonts. I’ve used letters and even symbols, like the ampersand, in random places throughout my home too. But I seem to have collected a lot of letter G’s {for my last name}. So I decided to group them together and hang them on a small wall we have between my kitchen and hallway. Decorating by grouping similar objects is a great way to make a statement. Even when each object is a little different, having something in common makes them work well together. Plus it’s easy and inexpensive – a lot of these letters can be found in any craft or thrift store. You can even make a few of them a DIY project!
Here’s a description of each:
1. I got this letter a long time ago from Anthropologie. You can find similar ones here.
2. This old chalkboard is from a local thrift store. I added a hanging bracket to the back, and then used chalkboard markers to write my letter. I love the chalk markers, they’re so much easier to use than real chalk – and washes off just like chalk.
3. I found this floral art online and just printed it out at home and attached it with washi tape.
4. This wood block is from A. C. Moore and I just painted the G on it. Check out my post about the best way to paint letters on wood.
5. I painted this large “g” on a canvas – so many of the lower case letters have much more interesting graphic shapes than their capitals.
6. I love this cut-out tin letter found at Michael’s.
7. This wooden G was also a Michael’s find {$2}. I hot glued it onto some fun scrapbook paper and put it in a frame. I had to discard the glass since the letter was too thick.
8. I created this watercolor painting by printing out a “g” from my computer and lightly tracing it onto watercolor paper. Then I painted around the letter so it has a little different effect.
9. This geometric paper cut-out was a DIY project that I made with old paper, scissors and a glue stick! I’ll be posting a tutorial soon.
10. This small metal “G” is another thrift store find. I hot glued it onto scrapbook paper and placed in a frame.
11 & 12. I’ve collected these ornament style letters along the way, some have even hung on our Christmas tree! I like that their shapes are a nice variation to all the square frames.
That’s my crazy monogrammed wall! I hope you enjoyed it and maybe you’re inspired to add some typography to your walls or make a statement with a fun grouping of similar objects.
