Father’s day is just over a week away and I have a fun project the kids can do for their dad. I think most dads are so hard to buy for so a little DIY from their kids or wife with a nice photo is a great thoughtful solution!
What I like about this project is that you can use an old frame you already have. I didn’t have one but I found one on sale ($4.99) at A.C. Moore. As you can see it’s pretty banged up but I plan on refinishing it anyway so this is perfect. Plus I love the blue color!
Here are the other materials you’ll need:
Scrapbook paper in a pattern that suits dad, sandpaper, ribbon, 3/4″ wood circles, bulldog metal clip, alphabet stamps and ink pad {if you want to personalize}, scissors, spray mount and hot glue.
1. Remove the backing from the frame and discard the glass. I used an 8×10″ frame to hold a 5×7″ photo. If you want a rustic look, you can sand the edges of the frame with your sandpaper.
2. Find a piece of scrapbook paper in a pattern that relates to your special guy. We used a football detail pattern but there’s so many fun patterns you could use – fishing, golfing, architecture, music notes, or just a nice pattern in dad’s favorite colors.
3. Cut the paper to fit the frame backing and attach it with glue or spray mount.
4. Cut a piece of coordinating ribbon to go across the top of the board. Leave a little extra on each side to wrap it around to the back. Use hot glue to attach it to the board.
5. Attach the bulldog clip in the center of the board over the ribbon with the hot glue. Make sure you leave enough room for the photo to hang from the clip.
6. For the personalization at the bottom, I found these flat wooden discs at A.C. Moore and used my alphabet stamps to add the letters.
7. I glued them on with – what else? – hot glue of course! So easy!!
8. Put the frame back together and clip on your favorite photo.
Father’s Day gift – done! I love this project and it could be adapted for any occasion.
I did a similar project with an old frame and used burlap as the backing. I attached my calendar to the clip – so fun! Check out that post here.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
