I’ve seen lots of baskets lately that have been embellished with pom poms. Vendors such as The Blake, Willow & Wood, Etsy, and Pottery Barn Teen all carry different versions of this trendy look.
I’ve made my own pom poms – you can check that post out here. It’s much easier than I thought. I used a pom pom maker (like this one) and it made the process very simple and quick. So I thought I would embellish one of my many baskets with a few pom poms and now I have a chic little basket.
Even though making pom poms is super easy – I didn’t make my own for this project. I had a few left over from my Christmas gift wrapping. I injured my thumb about a week before Christmas so I opted for store bought pom poms to decorate our gifts. They looked adorable and were much easier to attach than bows with my limited thumb use!
So if you decide to make your own pom poms, click here to see my post that includes a video how-to. You’ll need a pom pom maker, yarn and sharp scissors. That’s it! I recommend you try this – I’ve made a bunch ad used them for garland, pillow decorations, Christmas stocking embellishments, and winter hats.
In addition to the pom poms, you’ll also need a basket, glue gun and scissors.
First, figure out how many pom poms you want on your basket. If you choose to make them, be sure to leave a long string on the end. If you buy them, they should come with the long piece of string already. Tie each pom pom onto your basket with this string. I just tucked the string through any of the woven openings and tied them tightly on the inside. I went with 3 large pom poms and spaced them out along the front.
I didn’t like how they flopped over after I tied them so I used a little hot glue and glued them higher on the basket. There’s no right place to put the pom poms. I’ve seen them placed all different ways so just do what you like best. Wherever you place them, I suggest using a little glue to keep them secure.
Trim off the excess string on the inside and that’s it!
Add your items and display your new, trendy pom pom basket.
I love this project because it’s an easy way to add some unique style to your home. And pom poms are just so fun!
