handmade wood signs – just in time for fall

In addition to this little blog, I make wood signs. Hand painted, distressed, wood signs. I love working with wood, and my background as a graphic designer makes me also appreciate typography. And painting type is kind of therapeutic for me.

I went to college just around the time computer graphics were getting going (the dark ages) so I had to hand draw all the typography in my work. Think about that. Ad headlines, logos, brochures. All hand drawn type, and the fonts styles had to be easily distinguished.

Fast forward to now and the wood sign trend. I love them. And I love them more when they’re handmade.

So I made a new bunch, most of which have a fall theme. The “shine” signs were an idea that my friend’s teenage daughter had for her bedroom. I love it. I think it’s the perfect word for young girls. So I made a few – and even one for my teenage daughter. And the start of the school year is the perfect time to remind these young girls to shine.

All signs can come framed or unframed.

Framing adds $10-$20 per sign, depending on the size. I make the rustic frames from 1″ garden stakes. The garden stakes are the perfect size for the wood signs and they’re full of knots and imperfections that make the wood so beautiful. After they’re sanded down, I stain them and attach them with small nails and wood glue. All signs have sturdy wire for hanging, or a sawtooth hanger for the smaller signs.

I have a few of each version ready to ship. But I also take custom orders.
