I’ve been a little out of touch lately. We took a family trip to Washington DC and now I’m just getting back to the routine here. The trip was amazing – just what we all needed. We’ve been waiting for the kids to be the right ages to bring them and I think we hit it right. If I can get my act together, I’ll do a post on “what to do in DC – for families”.
Now, I have to move on to Mother’s day – it’s less than 2 weeks away and my head is spinning with ideas. I have such admiration for all moms. Maybe it’s because I am one and I understand what we tackle each day. It’s the hardest and at the same time the easiest job I’ve had. Hard because… well, I don’t think I really need to explain all the moments that make being a mom so hard. And easy because it really is so rewarding and fun. I’ve been blessed to have an amazing mom who I admire so much – even my husband says he’s very lucky to have such a great mother-in-law. But I find it very difficult to get my mom a gift that truly shows my appreciation. I like the sentimental gifts, the thoughtful and personal ones. And as a mom, I never really want anything expensive or flashy for Mother’s Day. That day is so precious that a big gift doesn’t always seem right. It’s the thought that counts, right? And I think that it’s so true for this day. Here are a few ideas for a nice, simple and meaningful gift:
engraved tray, Pottery Barn $49 // monogrammed linen coasters, Mark and Graham $38 set of 6 // flicker-sparkle studs, anthropologie $28 {wow!!} // herb garden markers, etsy $38 // Love You Mom box sign, Paper Source $6.95 // jewelry keeper, anthropologie $68 // The Giving Tree book by Shel Silverstein {children’s book but lovely message}, Amazon $10.39 // Year of Seeds, gifts.com $59.99
If you still find yourself stumped for a Mother’s Day gift, write her a note. Put it on pretty paper and tuck it away in a nice book you think she’ll enjoy. She’ll discover it when she goes to read it. And there’s always flowers. But be unique – pick a color or flowers she loves and then wrap them in nice fancy wrapping paper and tie with a ribbon. A nice handwritten note with those too… Whatever you give your mom, make it meaningful and from your heart. I’m sure she deserves it.
Happy Mother’s Day to all!
