It’s the final reveal of my daughter’s closet makeover in the One Room Challenge™. whoot whoot! This challenge was such a fun project to work on and yet it was very stressful to be under weekly progress deadlines. But it was a great way to keep me on track. Now that it’s done, I love it – and more importantly, so does she!
I did a few final projects this past week that are outlined below. Within the next few weeks I’ll post all the sources and any DIY projects in detail. In addition to the closet being much more functional, it’s such a pretty focal point in her room now.
Here’s the before:
And here’s what I did this week:
Added hooks for pocketbooks, small bags and scarves.
I took a piece of 6 x 1″ wood and cut it down to fit the width of the closet. I distressed it, painted it, distressed it more and then added some rose gold knobs. Click here to see my post on how to distress wood planks – it’s really easy and it’s a great opportunity to take out any frustrations you may have on the piece of wood.
Made a shoe storage.
This was something I found on pinterest and it didn’t really come out how I pictured it. It’s ok – does the job – but I’ll probably be looking for something else real soon.
Added lighting.
This wasn’t on my original to-do list because I didn’t realize how much the space needed lighting until I started working on the makeover. And I thought adding lighting meant hiring an electrician and that wasn’t in the budget, nor did we have enough time. I started researching options and found a plug-in light that can be hung to look like an overhead light from Land of Nod. They had options that came with geometric shades but the cord for those only came in black and the shade was a little too big for her small closet. So I got the white cord light without the shade and figured I could find something that would work better. I found this shade at Home Depot but it was brown. I bought spray paint in a color called pink champagne and gave it a feminine facelift. Now it works great in this space. I just love the name of that spray paint color.
Here’s a better view of how I installed the light. I attached a heavy duty hook in the ceiling and then nailed the cord in along the inside trim with cable hooks. It’s plugged in just outside the closet. The curtains hide the cord coming out too. The only feature I don’t love is that the switch is outside the closet down by the floor. But I love the light.
Added more accessories.
The rose gold was my favorite and I had a lot of fun shopping for this look. Those feathers though.
I also found a nice plush white rug to finish off the space.
Making over this closet has really made our daughter’s room more spacious. This was once an eye sore and a cumbersome space to maneuver but now it’s such a pretty and functional part of her room.
I hope you had fun following along. And maybe you got inspired to do your own makeover. Click here if you want to see more of the One Room Challenge final reveals. Those will definitely inspire you!

What a nice room for your daughter. She must be in heaven. A light in the closet should be in the building codes, they make such a big difference.
Well done.
